'A 10 year research breakthrough at the Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has given birth to Nigeria’s first genetically modified food crop.

Named the Pod Borer Resistant Cowpea (popularly called beans), this development was meant to tackle incidents of beans infestation by insect pest – Maruca Vitrata.
